With Maya’s love of Dance, it was only a matter of time before I took her to see The Nutcraker Ballet. This year she was finally old enough! I wanted to take her to a traditional version and so bought tickets for George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker by the New York City Ballet. I had heard great things about the show as Pam the owner of our house has seen it many times. Her eldest daughter was a Ballerina for the NYC Ballet Company from the age of seven and has danced every part of the Nutcracker over the many years she performed.
Held in the David H. Koch theatre at the Lincoln Centre, it was really a fancy afternoon out. Maya absolutely loved the show and at one point said “Mummy, I just want to run down there and jump onto the stage”. This was accompanied by much dancing in the isle. I was persuaded to buy both a Nutcracker doll and a snowflake tiara and Maya had her photo taken with one of the Snowflake dancers in position. It was wonderful to step into the world of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker, the perfect Christmas eve thing to do. Whether it is a family tradition or a once-in-a-lifetime visit, the experience of this glittering classic ballet will stay with you forever and warm the spirit…Wishing you all Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas!
